Just Puttin' It Out There

I think Carmelita Jeter goes into this race as the favorite... given her confidence and having that gold medal that she's worked for three World Championships to get, I don't see how they're going to deal with (her) in this 200 (meter race)... they will literally have to hope that she runs out of gas for them to beat her. -- Ato Bolden

Unlike some announcers (*cough* Matt Millen), I have to acknowledge that Ato Bolden has probably forgotten more about his sport (sprinting) than I will likely ever know. That said, occasionally, we like to use this blog to make a fearless prediction; I think Ato Bolden is wrong. I have too much respect for Bolden to tag this with "I Call Bullshit", but I really do not think Carmelita Jeter will win the 200 meters. Jeter may not even make the podium.


I hate to say it, but I'm predicting a Veronica Campbell-Brown victory at 200 meters. Just for the hell of it, I will also predict Allyson Felix and Shalonda Salomon will also beat Jeter. I don't know if I truly believe that part --- but the point stands, Jeter loses to VCB.

I Call B.S. - Amy K. Nelson Edition

To be perfectly honest, this post probably does not really belong in the "I Call B.S." catalogue. This is more of a potentially shitty prediction from Jim Rome is Burning that I wanted to call attention to. And I guess I could add this to the B.S. Watch List on the right of your monitor.

Here we go:

Jim Rome: The Yankees. Nevermind a World Championship, with their pitching staff the way it is right now, do they even have enough to make the post-season?

Amy K. Nelson: I say 'no shot'... I see them having a lot of problems.

Jim Rome: They need something. They need somebody to help them win. The way they're set up right now, it's not enough.

Now as much as I want this to be true. I think one is WAY over-stepping to say "no shot". Do we not expect the Devil Rays (not a mistake - to me they are the Devil Rays... and University of Hawaii are still the Rainbow Warriors... if you change your name for a stupid reason, I will ignore you) to take a step back? You're telling me that the Yankees have 'no shot' at even a wild card?!?

I'm gonna dog-ear this one.

NBADraft.Net Is Taunting Me

Some time ago, I predicted that Baylor PF Epke Udoh would be picked ahead of Kentucky PF Patrick Patterson in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Now, as of their May 6 update, nbadraft.net is projecting Patterson to go #8 to the Clippers with Udoh going #18 to Miami. I think that is nuts. Actually, in all honesty, I like Patterson... but he is a tweener who, in my opinion, doesn't have that one skill that will make him a useful NBA player. He actually reminds me of Ryan Humphrey, a 2002 first round pick who was essentially a bust (Humphrey was a better athlete, Patterson is probably slightly more skilled).

I can not say that I am entirely confident that Udoh will be in a rotation either. But at least he is an excellent shot-blocker and a surprisingly skilled passer and has better size than Patterson. So I'm here to say again... Udoh over Patterson.

Bold Prediction

I was checking out nbadraft.net and noticed that they are projecting Patrick Patterson going #9 overall in the June draft.

I want to go on the record that Patrick Patterson will NOT go in the lottery. In additon, I will add that I do not see Patterson going ahead of Ekpe Udoh - who the site is currently projecting at #16.
