I sent this to Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow. It is okay with me if members of Furriners Nation copy-n-paste to your particular senators.
Dear Senator,
I just wanted to voice my opinion about some reports I have read about today. It is being reported that all GOP senators are vowing to not cooperate with any legislation until the issue of the expiring tax rates are dealt with (presumably extended for all Americans including those making $250k+).
Please do not fall for this tactic! Does anyone have any reason to believe the GOP will cooperate with ending DADT, the DREAM Act, passing the START treaty before the end of the year, extending long-term unemployment benefits, etc. if you extend tax cuts for the wealthy?
That is ludicrous. Recently, I watched a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving where Lucy, as always, promises to hold the ball and takes it away at the last second... please do NOT let the Democrats play the role of Charlie Brown!
I am guessing the GOP is actually not willing to let all the tax cuts expire in their desire to protect the wealth of the top 2%. Perhaps deep down they even know that is fiscally irresponsible to do so and are doing so only to secure future campaign donations? Regardless, please stay true to the principles of the Democratic Party (and the promises of President Obama) that the government needs to work for average Americans and not for the moneyed elite.
Thank you,

40% is too much to confiscate no matter how successful one becomes, and I certainly hope to some day. Point really is, this is a form of spending control, which is sorely needed. That is where your attention should be, not whipping up class warfare to punish success.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteDid you know that 19% of Americans think they are in the top 1% of wage earners? Did you know that 35% of Americans, like you, think that some day they will be in the top 1%? Did you know that the top wage earners in American on average pay a tax rate of 16.6%? They don't pay 40%. The only people who pay the tax rate that they really should are those making under $250K a year. Did you know that the top wage earners in America make 66% of their money from the stock market at a tax rate of 15%? Did you know that people making $100k or less make 2% of their money from the stock market at this reduced rate? Did you know that tax cuts are the least simulative form of government spending because the rich don't spend their money? Whether you like it or not class warfare is being waged the only problem is that many people like you don't know that it is happening. You stand to lose the most under the current class warfare that you are denying. I feel sorry for you. You are as bought and paid for by the rich as most Politicians. You should really read more of this blog and get informed.

ReplyDeleteThese two comments about class warfare and whether or not my letter was provoking it made me think of the late famous line from Malcolm X:
"We didn't land on Plymouth Rock -
that rock landed on us"
So, yeah, class warfare seems to already be happening and the middle class is getting it's clock cleaned!
